Seven Excuses That Could Keep You Out of Heaven
Seven Excuses That Could Keep You Out of Heaven
(Key Verse 18)
Excuse means: To think of a fault or wrongdoing as not important. A reason that one has made up to explain their actions.
It is not my intention to do an in-depth message on this parable at this time, but notice verse 17 – “Come; for all things are now ready.”
The three that were invited to the supper had to do nothing except receive and come to it. Yet they gave ridiculous excuses: (1) One brought land, he had not seen.
(2) One brought oxen, he had not worked.
(3) One used his wife as an excuse.
* What excuse are you using for not having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
1. Everybody else lives and does their own thing.
Romans 12:2 Noah was a non-conformist (Genesis 6)
Enoch was a non-conformist (Genesis 5)
Jesus’ disciples were non-conformists (John 17)
2. Times have changed.
(Malachi 3:6) In these days of inflation, the wages of sin are still the same.
3. I don’t believe as you do. No matter what religious faith you are, it comes down to John 3:3 .
4. It does not matter what you believe, as long as you are sincere. *This is the greatest of lies Satan uses to send people to Hell.
5. I don’t understand it.
6. I’ll put it off – there’s plenty of time. The Bible is full of people who put this decision off:
(1) Young rich ruler (Mark 10)
(2) Rich man in Hell (Luke 16)
(3) Governor Felix (Acts 24)
(4) King Agrippa (Acts 26)
7. I am too sinful. (Acts 2) Apostle Peter preached to those who crucified Jesus and God saved them. (I Timothy 1) Paul called himself “the chiefest of sinners”
God’s Grace does for you what you cannot do for yourself.
EXCUSES FOR NOT BEING SAVED
*EXCUSES FOR NOT BEING SAVED*
-
The Apostle Paul who wrote the Book of Romans, penned one of the greatest verses found in the Bible:
(vs 16,17 Read)
*Then he begins the rebuke to those who do not believe the Gospel and those who deny God.
(vs 20) “so that they are without excuse”
*This world is filled with poeple who make excuses about almost everything: We refuse to admit our failures by giving an excuse which blames someone else.
1) Grown children blame their parents for their behavior.
2) A spouse blames someone else for a failed marriage.
3) Alcoholics blame some problem for the reason of their drinking.
*Excuses, excuses, everybody has one. Yet they will not stand before God at the judgement.
*This morning I want us to look and see what God says about excuses.
(1) The excuses of the Atheist
1) There is no God
(Ps 14:1) “The fool hath said in his head there is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”
2) Science has the true answers
(I Tim 6:20) “O Timothy keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings and oppositions of science falsely so called.”
3) Death is the end of man
*Yet God said (Heb 9:27) “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement.”
2) The excuses of the Agnostic
1) No one know whether there is a God
(Ps 19:1) “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handy work.” (I Kings 18 Elijah and prophet of Baal)
2) No one can know whether there is a Heaven
(Matt 10:32, 33 Read)
(Acts 8 Stephen being stoned looked into heaven, saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at His right hand.
3) The excuses of those deceived
1) My way is all right
(Prov 14:12) “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end there are the ways of death.”
2) I am living a good life
(James 2:10) ” For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offered in one point, he is guilty of all.”
Who is innocent of all?
3) I am a church member
(John 3:3) “Verily, verily I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
4) The excuses of the unconvicted
1) I am not lost
(Rom 3:23) “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
2) I don’t have the feeling I need God’s salvation
(Eph 2:8,9 Read)
5) The excuses of the procrastinator
1) I will seek the Lord some other time
(Prov 27:1) “Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.”
What is your excuse for not trusting Jesus Christ today?
